The City of New Britain built a new 5 story building, state-of-the-art police department facility that includes a dispatch and emergency operations center for the New Britain Police Department located on the corner of Main and Chestnut Street. This modern facility features a modern forensics lab including a signal isolation room to reconstruct electronic device history, a tiered lecture room for 100, a library, physical combat training room and tactical simulation room.

CES provided full MEP/FP and technology engineering design for this project. Systems included in this new construction project include gas fired water heater with pumped recirculation systems to serve the domestic hot water system. The HVAC systems include natural gas hot water boilers, exterior mounted chiller, indoor built-up air handling unites, roof mounted air handling unite, hot and chilled water pumps, VAV boxes, perimeter radiation and DDC controls. A BACNET Building Management System will be installed to control the mechanical and electrical systems for this facility.

The electrical systems included separate normal, emergency and UPS power distribution. Separate distribution and generator systems were provided for the dispatch and emergency operations system. Due to site constraints, the entire facility is served by an 800kW diesel fired emergency generator located in the basement of the facility. LED lighting was used to reduce the electrical usage of the facility. The technology systems included a state of the art fiber optic distribution system where all of the major systems including telephone, data, security, video, etc. are supported by this fiber optic network. This allowed for more space within the building to be dedicated to police operations rather that telecommunication and data closets. The dispatch area includes an array of (16) large monitors on a video wall so that the dispatch personnel can view multiple images at one time.
