Gateway Community College

Architect Perkins + Will
Size 560,000 sq.ft.
PV Size 60kW
Cost $400,000

CES, working with Ferguson Electric and Perkins + Will, engineered this unique photovoltaic system of 61.2 kW to traverse the face of the front façade and pass across the bridge between the two separate portions of the building. The architect designed the array to structurally and aesthetically blend with the building construction while accenting the productive use of renewable energy with synergistic design.

This project is LEED Gold certified, and along with the solar PV system, the project also features sustainable design strategies including solar shading, ice storage, sustainable and recyclable materials, a green roof, and solar hot water heating. The goal of this project was to help the college reduce the demand on their existing energy by maximizing the energy efficiency of their equipment and systems.
