Position Summary

Responsible for supporting the commissioning activities of mechanical and electrical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power and lighting systems as well as building envelope systems.

Previous experience in controls, testing and balancing, MEP construction or engineering ideal.

Essential Functions

The Commissioning Engineer’s primary responsibility is to ensure that systems, equipment, and facilities are installed, tested, and functioning correctly before they are handed over to clients or put into operation. This role will support the Commissioning Team with project specific document development and review, on-site reviews and investigations, coordination internally with the commissioning team and externally with architectural, engineering and construction industry professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Project Planning:
    • Collaborate with project managers and design engineers to develop commissioning plans, inspection checklists, functional performance testing sheets and schedules.
    • Review proposals as well as project specifications and requirements to understand commissioning needs.
  2. Testing and Inspection:
    • Inspect installations for compliance with design specifications, regulatory standards as well as accessibility of components.
    • Oversee/conduct functional and performance testing of systems and equipment.
  3. Documentation:
    • Prepare commissioning reports, checklists, and documentation.
    • Maintain detailed records of test results, issues, and resolutions.
  4. Troubleshooting:
    • Identify and resolve issues and deficiencies during the commissioning process.
    • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to address problems.

Assist commissioning project managers with tasks during design, construction and warranty phase commissioning.

Qualifications

B.S. degree preferred in construction management or engineering technology.

  • Experience or familiarity with Building Management Systems/Controls and/or HVAC system testing and balancing; Construction Management
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and writing skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
