Founded in 1963, Sacred Heart University is a Roman Catholic university located in the picturesque suburbs of Fairfield. With a student population of over 8,000 students, it is the second-largest Catholic University in New England.

To accommodate the growing student population, the former Jewish Home Property located in the middle of the Sacred Heart Campus was purchased. The University has embarked on the first phase of incorporating the site into the overall campus. Built in 1980, the structure needs to undergo an extensive gut renovation to accommodate students in the form of a new dormitory. Dorm rooms will be a mix of single, and double occupancies, with each suite containing private toilet rooms. Amenities will include a game room, living room with two fireplaces, a 9,000 gallon salt water fish tank, and two story meeting/study spaces.

CES worked with the design team and SHU to create a new MEP infrastructure including individual room temperature controls, chiller and boiler plant, new DDC system and standby power to allow for dorm residents to remain in place in the event of a storm situation. The project design also included calculations and infrastructure design to support the next phases of the development for the parcel, including new electrical, gas, telecom and water utilities.
