The mechanical design included new water cooled chillers, fluid coolers, hot water boilers, special filtration systems and humidification equipment. The design required sensitivity toward aesthetic changes, noise transmission and constraints of the existing buildings. Due to the value of the rare historical items housed within the museum, this project also required a practical method for minimizing the existing temperature and humidity fluctuations throughout the museum.

The popular tourist attraction is now 100% sprinklered with wet and dry pipe systems complete with water storage and a diesel driven fire pump. Air conditioning has been provided for sensitive areas for artifact longevity. Heating and ventilation upgrades were provided to improve environmental conditions.

Located in the heart of Guilford on the historic Guilford Green, this colonial library dates back to the 1700’s. This renovation and addition project is part of a multi million dollar bonding that will be financing the expansions and renovations of libraries in 11 communities throughout Connecticut. The renovations for this library will include linking it with the adjoining historic Major Lathrop House. The renovations and updates for this building include plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical. The new lighting for this building incorporates an abundance of natural light through uniquely designed and situated windows throughout the structure.
Mark Twain LibraryMark Twain Library
Redding, CT

Connecticut’s most famous literary figure Mark Twain founded this library in 1908. The most current addition consisted of approximately 9,800 square feet and was designed to complement the existing library while creating and improving internal traffic patterns. A new, larger space for the children’s area was provided, as well as a new separate quiet reading room. New architectural lighting highlights display cases that can be moved for larger public functions.

This new public library was made possible in part by former Monroe resident and Director Physical Education, Edith Wheeler. Air conditioning is provided by gas-fired packaged rooftop units which are cleverly hidden from view at all angles of the building. Lighting design incorporates energy efficiency and aesthetics to create a comfortable environment for research, study and enjoyment.

Norwich, CT

This public library was expanded to better serve the Norwich and Bozrah communities, with large meeting spaces, a new children’s area and 21st century library technology. The mechanical design was comprised of two new gas fired boilers and packaged rooftop units for heating and cooling, governed by a VAV system with supplemental coils. Electrical service is provided by a new 1000 Amp, 480Y/277V, 3-phase 4-wire underground system.

Renovation of this turn-of-the-century library included a new HVAC system featuring a chiller, boiler and two pipe fan coil units. A new power distribution system was installed, as well as hot and cold water distribution/generation upgrades, new architectural lighting, emergency lighting, exit signage and a new fire alarm system.

This historic 130-year old library underwent a complete renovation of its existing 60,000 s.f., and received an addition of 8,000 s.f. of new space. The entire building infrastructure of mechanical, electrical plumbing and Information technology was replaced, plus fire and life safety code improvements including an automatic sprinkler system and emergency lighting and fire alarm upgrades. The project included the creation of a Teen Room, five new study rooms, a computer training room, and a quiet reading room.
