CES Collects over 9,000 Food Donations to Win the Salvation Army's Architects and Engineers Can Challenge

CES has collected over 9,000 food items for the Salvation Army Architects and Engineers Challenge and is this year's winner! The Salvation Army established the Architects and Engineers Can Challenge back in 1989 that invites local architecture and engineering firms to compete for top honors by gathering donations of non perishable food items and cash for the areas Salvation Army food support services. The number of items divided by the number of employees determines the winner.

CES holds the record for the largest monetary and food donation of the industry participants and over the past 12 years, CES has only lost once. These accomplishments are due to the internal competition CES employees hold. The employees are divided into teams and each team competes to see who can collect the most cans and cash. Over the past decade, this event has become an intense competition creating a fun rivalry within the office. The team with the highest per capita wins the office trophy which is passed on from the previous year's winners when The Salvation Army comes to collect the firm's donation.

2011 Salvation Army Can Drive Challenge

Each year, CES participates in the Salvation Army Architects and Engineers Can Drive Challenge. This year is already in full swing! CES holds an internal competition among the teams in the office to see who can collect the most cans. The offices fun, competitive spirit has lead the firm to win this challenge 10 times over the past 11 years. CES holds the record for the largest monetary donation of the industry participants. In 2010, CES donated over 11,000 food items. Stay tuned to see how many cans are collected for the 2011 challenge!

CES Selected by Toyota to Beta Test Prius Plug-In Hybrid Concept Car

CES is excited to announce that we were selected by Toyota to participate in their demonstration program and testing of the new Prius Plug-In Hybrid Concept Car. There are 600 of these vehicles being tested worldwide. 150 of which are in the United States and we will have the only one in Connecticut.

On June 8th the Connecticut Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services held their bi-annual Marketing Communication Awards and Member Appreciation event at the Lyman Orchards Homestead in Middlefield, CT.

Firms submitted a variety of different marketing pieces that were developed within the past year to be judged in different categories such as Best Brochure or Best Holiday Piece, etc..

CES Welcomes Scott Conover

Middletown, CT (June 6, 2011) - Consulting Engineering Services (CES) is excited and pleased to announce the addition of Scott Conover to their team. Scott joined CES on June 6^th as a full-time Business Development Manager. With over 25 years of experience, Scott has set a standard for business development in the AEC industry. For the past two years Scott served as the Business Development Manager at RH White Construction, one of the largest contractors in construction specializing in utilities around New England. Prior to RH White, Scott was the Director of Client Relations for PinnacleOne (now Arcadis). Scott has an energy and passion for building new relationships and an innovative approach to problem solving. His results driven motivation along with his positive attitude and enjoyable personality will undoubtedly be an asset to the CES team.

CES Website a Finalist for the SMPS Connecticut Marketing Communications Awards

Members and friends of the CT chapter of SMPS (Society for Marketing Professional Services) were invited to submit entries for their bi-annual awards program that recognizes outstanding marketing pieces by architectural, engineering, design, construction and specialty consultant firms. Judging was carried out by a jury process, with 3 judges participating this year.

Our beautiful new website was selected as a finalist in the category of "best website". The winners will be announced at an event that will be held on June 8th. Fingers crossed and say tuned to see if we are the 2011 winner!

2011 Charity Golf Tournament

We will be holding our annual charity golf tournament on Friday October 7, 2011 at Tunxis Plantation Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the George V. Keithan, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. Details will come at a later date.

About the George V. Keithan, Sr. Scholarship Fund

In honour of George V. Keithan, Sr. (or to most of us at CES, Mr.K), Consulting Engineering Services set up a scholarship fund, back in 2009 after his passing, in his name that will help provide financial assistance to graduating seniors from Xavier High School and Mercy High School looking to pursue a career in engineering. From that year forward, all proceeds from our annual golf tournament go to this fund. These schools were chosen as the recipients because a large portion of the Keithan family are either currently attending or are alumni of these schools.

Mr. K was a long-time resident of Middletown, CT. Along with being a World War II Veteran, Mr. K was a 37 year officer with the Middletown Police Department, retiring at the rank of Sergeant with the Middleotwn Police's Community Relations Department. During that time, he was an instructor at the Meriden Police Academy, a founder and organizer of the Police Explorer Group, and a driving instructor with Big A Driving School. After his retirement, he served as a State Marshall for fourteen years, and most recently was the corporate photographer for CES.

At CES, Mr. K was our personal paparazzi, portrait taker and story teller. Always ready with a camera (or two) at hand to take photos of holiday parties, company meetings, our summertime Friday lunches, company picnics and of course, our annual golf tournament. He always had a knack for catching you just at the right moment, with his precision timing, you might be lucky enough to get an action shot of that fork filled with salad entering your mouth. Mr. K didn't believe in posed pictures, he loved to get candid shots, everyone as they were in the very moment of time.

Not only did he provide us with pictures capturing great memories of events here at the office, but he was always more than willing to help out the teams in our office by delivery drawings to clients or running errands to the post office or bank. Mr. K was always eager and ready to lend a hand to the marketing department and venture out around the state, snapping shots of our latest finished projects; many of the photos you see on our project sheets and website were proudly taken by our very own Mr.K.

There is still an emptiness that can't be avoided whenever we walk past his old desk, but not a single person at CES can speak of Mr. K without cracking a reminiscent smile :)

The number of items divided by the number of employees determines the winner.

CES holds the record for the largest monetary and food donation of the industry participants and over the past 11 years, CES has only lost once (that's 10 wins, but whose counting). Recognizing that CES employees seem to have a taste for friendly competition, they are divided into teams and each team competes to see who can collect the most cans and cash. Over the past decade, this event has become a very intense competition creating a fun rivalry within the office fueled by motivation to win the ever so coveted first place trophy (which coincidentally is made from gold spray painted empty cans). The team who has the highest per capita wins this trophy that is always begrudgingly passed on from the previous year's winner.
