CES provided full commissioning services for three new student residences to house 750 students for ECSU. The first building, a five-story, 66,759 sq. ft. freshman dormitory, was completed in August 2004.

This historic building originally designed by Henry Bacon underwent a complete renovation that included the replacement of all MEP systems. Demolition left only the building exterior and floor slabs, allowing for all necessary code updates and ADA components such as a new elevator and sprinklers. CES, Inc. provided individual temperature controls in all residence rooms, air conditioning throughout the building, automated lighting controls and full voice, data and video connectivity.

Live data feeds provide real-time financial news and stock reports. Each of the 31 workstations includes two flat-screen LCD monitors to simulate actual trading floor conditions.

The building was provided with a new fire protection system and was partially sprinklered. Upgrades to the heating system included new controls and ventilation systems to improve energy efficiency.

Water efficient and code compliant plumbing and life safety features were the premise for these building system upgrades, along with new lighting and exhaust systems. All new sensor-driven plumbing fixtures, along with new sprinkler systems, were specially chosen and coordinated to blend with the existing historic architecture.

Mechanical systems consist of gas fired rooftop units with VAV terminal units controlled through a building management system. The building is equipped with water-saving plumbing fixtures and a central gas fired domestic water heater. The facility is fully protected by an automatic  sprinkler system.

Revisions to the electrical service included new power distribution and low voltage wiring to support new data communications capabilities in each room. Life safety feature included a new fire alarm system and sprinklers throughout the building.

The Ely Campus Center houses student services including the library, bookstore, wellness center and cafe, plus other academic departments such as Communications and Theatre. As part of a comprehensive renovation, code update and addition project, CES is providing full electrical design services for this essential campus facility, including new power distribution and emergency lighting.

Founded in 1877 by a group of prominent Hartford women including novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe and Elizabeth Colt, president of Colt Firearms, the Hartford Art School is now comprised of nearly 400 art students and renowned faculty from around the world. Working with a very limited budget, CES was able to design improvements to the existing late 60’s facility, allowing for expansion of the University’s growing fine arts program. Featured spaces include media arts, a photography studio, print making spaces, and color as well as black & white dark rooms.

This 27,500 square foot dining hall will undergo a complete renovation and receive an addition of approximately 6,700 square feet. The revisions will provide all new cooking and dining facilities to meet the changing dining habits of students and faculty in a contemporary collegiate setting. Additionally, the new floor plan allows various parts of the facility to be used for private events.In keeping with New York Executive Order 111, comprehensive energy modelling software was incorporated into the project to give accurate heating and cooling load calculations with various design scenarios.
